The North West Guitar Show is at Haydock Park Racecourse Exhibition Centre, Newton-le-Willows, Cheshire, WA12 0HQ on Sunday 18th May, 10am to 4.30pm.  This is now one of the biggest guitar shows in the UK featuring more than 100 exhibitors in four halls with bargains in new, secondhand and vintage guitars, amps, effects and accessories. Admission is £7.00, pay on the door. (Accompanied under-12's free). Free parking. Licensed bar and cafe.

The  Show will feature an appearance by guitarist, collector, historian and writer, Phil Harris, with two of the most iconic guitars in the world - the sunburst 1959 Gibson Les Paul previously owned by Peter Green and Gary Moore AND the 1959 Les Paul owned by Paul Kossoff of legendary 60's blues/rock pioneers, Free.

Phil Harris will be on the main stage playing the guitars with a band and talking about the guitars' history and details.

Sunburst '59 'Bursts without any famous player connection are extremely rare and valuable; good examples can fetch astronomical amounts of money. However, due to their connection with these major guitarists, these particular examples are almost priceless.

Joe Bonamassa was recently delighted to use the Peter Green guitar for a performance at The Royal Albert Hall. Phil Harris confirms that the outing at the North West Guitar Show is likely to be the only time the guitar will be out in public in the foreseeable future.

The Green/Moore guitar has been used on many classic recordings including Man of the World, Need Your Love So Bad and Black Magic Woman by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac and Parisienne Walkways, Pretty Woman and Still Got the Blues by Gary Moore. It has a distinctive sound, unlike a regular Les Paul, due to a happy accident when the neck pickup was repaired incorrectly and then installed the wrong way round!

The current owner of the guitar is an American collector who felt that the guitar should reside back in the UK and asked Phil to be the custodian while it is here. Interestingly, Phil's history with the guitar goes back to the 1960's when his own band was supporting Fleetwood Mac at an early London gig and he had the opportunity to talk to Peter Green about it.

There will also be an opportunity to have a picture taken next to the guitar in return for a £5 donation to charity.

The Kossoff instrument has been owned for many years by a Newcastle guitarist and friend of the late Paul Kossoff. He was given the guitar by Paul's father, the actor David Kossoff, after Paul's untimely death.

Also playing at the Show will be Roger's Floyd, a tribute to Pink Floyd, and virtuoso shredder Gav Coulson with Vintage and Fret-King guitars as well as Raunchy Biscuits acoustic duo and ace session guitarist Neil Mellor.

Plus free  jazz guitar workshops with Kathy Dyson sponsored by the Musicians' Union.

A fantastic day out for any guitarist!

Thanks.
I'm not aware of any in Essex. We organise five a year in the north. We tried further south in Birmingham and Nottingham. Other people tried in Southampton, South Wales, Norwich etc but they just didn't work as well as they do in the north. Don't know why... There have been several over the years in London but more like trade shows just for the big names etc. Ours are more retail, buy on the day type events. Have a look on YouTube for "Merseyside Guitar Show 2012" to see a video of one of our events. Or "North West Guitar Show with Bernie Marsden". Exhibitors at our shows are anyone from the biggest distributors, manufacturers and brands like Gibson and Roland right through to the private collector who only has 4 or 5 guitars to sell, guitar repairers and people who sell parts and accessories at ridiculously low prices.
I know it's a long way for you but as an enthusiast you should try and attend. You would have  fantastic day out. Make a weekend of it and have a Saturday night out in Manchester or Liverpool - some great live music going on there!

Hi to everyone.

I am Peter. I've been playing guitar for about 50 years and I'm a gigging guitarist in an Eagles tribute band, valve amp builder and collector and for the last 15 years I have been arranging the UK's best guitar shows here in the North of England.

I would like to use this site to interact with other guitarists about equipment, tell you about my band's gigs and keep you updated about the guitar shows we organise.

Our next guitar show is The North West Guitar Show at Haydock Park Racecourse Exhibition Centre on Sunday 19th May. This is a massive event with about 100 exhibitors in four halls with gear to sell, demo, try-out, discuss and generally have a good time with like-minded enthuusiasts. There will be live music all day with rising star of the Blues scene BEN POOLE with his band plus jazz-swing from Anth Purdy, rock from The Andy Bennett Band and sheer virtuosity from 14 year-old James Bell, winner of Young Guitarist of the Year 2011. What's more there are gear demos all day and, among others, ace session guitarist Lee Wrathe will be demoing Roland Boss gear. A fantastic day out for anyone into guitars.

The next gig for our Eagles Tribute band is this Saturday 13th April at Amore Wine Bar, High St. Frodsham, Cheshire.

Best wishes

Peter
