This was a fad for a while in the 90s I recall.  not recommended as you will fry speakers at volume, but it gets a nice tone :-)

General Discussion / Re: Guitar Wood?
September 22, 2013, 11:06:02 AM
Don't bc rich use plywood for a lot of their bronze series?  I made a body from it once as I wanted a weird shape and it sounded good. Ply will never sound as good as solid wood, but with the right pups it's not bad. Mdf is dreadful and bad to work with.

I must add, it had a small chip on the back (paint only) and needed a new machine head, I got a set For less than 20 quid.   it's a stripped down job, no fancy trim, no binding, no bigsby etc. But it sounds and plays like a jet.

a good drum stool works wonders, preferably with a back on it, it still gives you support, but loads of arm freedom (i guess thats why drummers use them)

i got a new guitar, i sold the warlock i had a while back and got this little gretsch electromatic 2 days ago for the princely sum of £60.  its the no bells or whistles of a gretsch jet, it sounds awesome though.

I'm working on a les Paul-noise (see what I did there :)) ), I'll post some pics before during and after when it's done, I got a body and set neck for 10 quid with a hard case from the site I pm-d you.  Didn't want to link it here as I don't like to advertise on other peoples sites.  be wary when buying, get as many pics as you can of the guitar, this l.p. I got has a weird cavity shape so I'm going to have to cut my own cavity plate.  No big deal, but can be daunting first time.  Have a look on eBay they have luthier kits pretty cheap and come with everything but paint (about £150 imported including costs) including double backers if that's your thing, all shapes catered for too, even some nice looking hollow bodies.  If it's the first time you have tried building, it's a great way to learn.  Or you may have built before then it's teaching your granny to suck eggs......  Still, you can always buy a 50 quid guitar and build it up with better parts, or do what I have done previously and cut your own body.  Term, I'm going off topic slightly now......  Sorry, I don't have anything cheap lying around.

Amplifiers / Re: Valve amps
July 18, 2013, 03:23:37 PM
managed to get my internet fixed/bodged so i can post.  been an odd month, but i digress, yeah the amp is sounding awesome, it has a valve preamp i think, or post amp. anyway the ac30 emulator on it is spot on, the other models are about as good as you can get from a modeling amp.  loud enough to fill a concert hall in a workmans club also so im well happy with it :).  also for anyone thinking about it, there is a nice toneroom thing on the vox website where people upload tones  they have created, some of these are fantastic, others are not, but hey its fun to play with. http://www.voxamps.com/toneroom/
