Mick,
Thanks!

It's actually the meat of the nut. The meat is soft and edible at first, but after weeks of drying them out, they become very hard and rigid like ivory.

Pretty neat material and the sound is very clear.

Hey guys, thought you might be interested in some of the best organic picks you'll ever try. Hand made in New York state from Tagua Nut. Nice to see a forum like this! Found out about you guys through twitter.

Check out our etsy store here (20% your order with coupon code: PICKING): https://www.etsy.com/listing/119331538/tagua-guitar-picks-vegetable-ivory-hand

A little about them:
After you try this pick, you will never go back to a cheap plastic pick again. Howling Monkey Vegetable Ivory Handmade Guitar Picks (which come in a handy cinch carry bag) provide superior clarity, control, attack and durability.

The guitar picks are made from a nut found in South America called the tagua nut, considered "vegetable ivory" because it has many of the same attributes as animal ivory. Because of their ivory-like nature, tagua nuts wear down very slowly without scraping or chipping, which is why they last longer than regular plastic picks too.

Most importantly, tagua nut guitar picks produce a clear, vibrant, and warm tone, illumintaing the sound of the instrument, not the pick.
