Title: Cheeky favour!
Post by: GuitarStarTV on September 01, 2014, 05:36:03 AM
I know this sounds really cheeky but thought if throw it out there!
I'm looking for a new profile picture to use on all social media, artwork & on my website which will be constructed. & launched in the future. The only thing is I'm not that great so was wondering if anyone on here was any good at designing artwork?
If you are & want to design my new image then feel free! It can be anything as long as it somehow represents GUITAR STAR TV
Of course I will give you all credit on every site & post any links to your stuff etc that you like. I think it's all about helping others & spreading the word for each other!

James, I don't think it's cheeky at all, some people love doing this kind of stuff as a challenge.

That said, you've seen what a hash up I made of my twitter / face book profile pics, lol.  Have you got any ideas what kind of thing you're after, colours, what images to include (drawn, or photos), text etc?

Hey mate! I'm pretty open to any ideas really. I had the idea of a simple design using the letters G S T V along with a simple logo using bold eye catching colours but saying that I would love an image too. Just something that anyone can associate with me & my page!

I do logos and some graphic work for the business, GS, so I have a little experience.  I'll see what I can come up with today.  Usually it's a case of doing a half dozen (or more) different styles and then picking one and refining.

Got a few things to take care of this morning, but I'll play with it later on...

Thank you so much Joom I really appreciate your help & can't wait to see what you come up with!

Forgot to ask - what would be the primary use size be for this?  Avatars are usually 90x90 to 100x100, but profile and literature images are generally larger and give a little more freedom to play.  Just thought I'd check...

Typing at the same time.

No problem, GS, we'll see what we can come up with.  Could be that while we're looking at 10 different ideas, somebody else comes up with just the perfect one.  That's how it goes sometimes.

And I always tell people, no hard feelings if you don't like anything that comes out... ;)

You could do 1 for a profile image if you like then I can shrink it for an avatar or you can always use simple lettering for the avatar! Thanks so much once again!

GS, I was just looking at your FaceBook page.  I like the B&W profile pic you have there.  Will still work on a graphic one, but that sits pretty well in there.

Also wanted to mention (just slap me if I'm wrong), I think you might be using the work "tuition" incorrectly there in a few places.  Looks like you meant "instruction", where tuition usually means a fee for education.  Something like "Free online guitar instruction", or "Tuition free online guitar instruction".  But like I said, just slap me and tell me to shut up... "P

Think you make a very good point there Joom never thought about that! See that's why I need help in this area! Lol!

Just things I notice, GS.  When I taught Computer Science and Business Data Processing at university I substituted for an Honors English class quite often, so it's habit.

Not that I don't make mistakes and typos too, but it's easier to catch other people doing it... :P

I'm assuming the use of the terms, "Free online tutorials", or "Free guitar tutorials" are ok?  They seem to be commonly used throughout the internet.

Yeah it does! Would like to have something else that makes me stand out from others!

I know, right?  I always said I'd like to be outstanding in my field - just didn't know the field would be full of cow manure and rattlesnakes.  Now I settle for just being outstanding in my back yard. ;)

Should be able to try a couple things on graphics shortly.  Probably after you're all in bed...

Well, as things usually go with me, I got sidetracked last night by company.  Brother-in-law is in the hospital right now, so people from out of town keep showing up.

Will get back on it this evening, GS...

Hey mate! Don't sweat it! Hope everything is going good! Can't wait to see what you come up with! I know exactly what you mean by getting sidetracked! I have enough problems with the normal day to day stuff! Lol!

So sorry to just disappear.  Been at the hospital most of the time the last week, and will be for a while yet.  Getting close to the end, so I'll be away with that most of the time till it's over.

Meantime, I threw together just a few quick ideas for this, GS.  Haven't been able to give it a lot of thought or spend any time on it like I'd hoped, but maybe some or one of these things will be headed in a direction you like and we can refine as we go.  Or they're all crap and we can start with a fresh idea.  I haven't really been in the 'graphics groove' lately.

Did a very quick animated avatar (various sizes) to see if you might want to do something along those lines, too.  Something for forums, or whatever.  Could go any way with that.

Couple of these also have transparent backgrounds, which means they would disappear on a dark background.  Transparent backgrounds can be cool to use, but only on the right backgrounds.

Anyway, just a few ideas done really quick just to get an idea of a direction to go.  Toss them all, use one as an idea for something else, whatever works.  We can go from here.  Just remember I'll be in and out and/or away for a while yet...

Hey mate not a problem! I know exactly how life throws things up all the time!
Will download them tomorrow on my laptop & have a look as my iphone won't let me download them!
Look forward to seeing them!
Thanks again for all your help my friend!

Nothing special or extraordinary, GS, just some really quick starter ideas we might be able to work from.  Either way, we'll get you what you want/need...

Thank you so much for the designs! Have chosen my favorite one. They are all great but I tend to go for really simple and clean when it comes to profile images! Really appreciate you giving your time for me!

No problem at all, GS, but they were all just quick starter ideas.  If you found one you liked, cool, but don't think you have to stick with one of them.  We can do whatever you like from there.  Or anything else you want...

To be honest mate if you look at my avatar now I think it's really effective & does the job perfectly! Feel free to do whatever you want & I will greatfuly have a look. Don't want you spending ages on it just for me! You have done enough already!

Anytime, GS.  Just let me know if you need anything else.  But just so you know, I'm not used to people liking the 'starter' ideas very often.... :P

I manage a graphic and web design process here and have to agree with Joom. I've never seen a first draft approval before.  :o

Obviously Joom did something right :)

Here's a really quick one from me, using Joom's idea of course.  ;)

Slightly over complicated as always, with a few 3d elements thrown in.  :D  Will look better on a lighter background though.

Nice one, Mick.  I like using the 3D effect sometimes on larger text, but usually doesn't translate well for the smaller pics.  Looks great there, though.  Ya done good... ;)

Love it Mick! Thank you so much! Really like the design & 3D effect too!

No problem. Joom takes credit for the idea on this one.

I see you're using it on your twitter and facebook profiles, and they look a bit strange because I didn't resize them properly, or make them square.  :-[ So I've done this for you.  Attached is a 200 x 200 one for twitter, and a 160 x 160 one for facebook.  Give those a try, and see if they fit nicely, they should do. If not we'll go back to the drawing board, (so to speak).  ;)

Hope it helps.

You're welcome James.  Does look much better now that they fit the profile boxes.
