Mick / Scarebear

Cheers for the comments fellas.

The app is Auria. Absolutely brilliant. Love the ability to use the touchscreen, it's really intuitive.

Not had much experience with DAWs on PC/Mac, but this is as good as it gets on iPad I think.

They're also launching Auria Pro soon, interface / design changing.

More fun with the Focusrite iTrack Dock.
Strat based this time.

Recorded into Auria, with a little Final Touch mastering.

New bit of gear - Focusrite iTrack Dock.

Recorded in my kitchen this evening at very low levels.

2tracks - rhythm double tracked and panned slightly L/R
Lead left just off centre.

Pretty chuffed with the quality.

Put a new set of Curt Mangan strings on the 335, then recorded this acoustic straight into iPad using just the onboard mic.

Double tracked in Auria and some tweaking / warming done, then straight up to Soundcloud.

Hope you like it. :)

General Discussion / Re: AC/DC Albums

Powerage.

Gimme a Bullet, Down Payment Blues, Gone Shootin' - possibly the best opening trio on any album.

If they'd stuck Ride On on there too......

The Apogee Jam is great - I've used the original and if it's silent recording (using ipad apps) and portability you want it's very capable.

I also have a Samson Meteor mic - good for recording a real amp, and only needs a camera kit connector and you're up an running.

This was done using the Meteor for gtr/bass and it's a big improvement overwhat I cd achieve with the Apogee.

If i was looking now (and thanks to your question I might well be!) there's lots more out there. I'd be seriously considering the following

  • IK Multimedia Irig HD Pro. Similar to the Jam, takes a mic too.
    Tascam iu2 dock
    Focusrite iTrack dock
    Focusrite iTrack Solo

All look like they provide a step up in the connectivity / versatility and are pretty reasonably priced.

I was a total novice when I started (in GB on iPhone) and have loved using the ipad for recording. Great fun and the interface is excellent, (at least it works for me)! Have fun and keep us posted.

I'll drink to that Scarebear!
Was feeling quite nostalgic as I wrote mine.
Happy memories.

Eventually I plan to learn how to play decently, but right now I still enjoy making noise with them and building them.

We're very alike it seems :)

This is easily my favourite thread on this forum. It's great to read about what first brought about that passion for guitar.

Mine?

I grew up hearing my dad and his mates sat around our kitchen table, just playing and singing songs. They always seemed to be having so much fun, just kicking back and playing for pleasure.

If he didn't play guitar, I don't think I'd even be here; he met Mum back in the 50s playing in a skiffle group (he even taught Albert Lee some stuff back in the early days. Albert bloody Lee!)

I remember him teaching me the melody to 'It Ain't Necessarily So' in a caravan one rainy night when I was about 8/9. Hooked, never looked back.

Dad's 83 now, I still love seeing him play occasionally.

Final Touch Mastering

New iPad app launched today by Positive Grid (the same co that did Bias)

From this

https://soundcloud.com/gra-ald/1-mc-everlong-12-03-new-master

To this

https://soundcloud.com/gra-ald/everlong-mastered-using-final

Took me 5 minutes and I have no previous mastering experience.
£13.99 in the UK.

The stuff we have these days. Think I was born 30 years too early!

Nice work! There is hardly any direct string noise too  (which I always get when recording using the iPhone mic).

Hi SB and thanks for the kind words.

Re string noise, the trick is to set the level with the phone in front of the amp but with the mic pointing away from you.
(And I was also playing veeeeeeery softly thru most of it)!

I've also considered dropping a cloth over the phone as a baffle, but not tried it yet.

Hope you like it.  :)
