Guitar cable quality?

In your opinion is it worth spending top money on a quality guitar cable.  This question is largely based on the occasional user just playing at home.  = (Me). 

Just wondering what benefits can be gained from spending more on a cable.

If you have a soldering iron you can always make your own. I needed some small patch cables in my workshop for a test rig. I purchased a length of cable and some plugs from Jaycar and made my own cables to the length I needed. Always an option!

Thanks,  I'm still using my original leads at the moment, but I know at least one of them is going to fail soon.  I might buy a couple of plugs and repair it when it does.  Like most leads they almost always fail at one end or the other where the bending takes place. so cutting back and replace plug might work for me.

I've seen some guys fill the plug with silicone before screwing it back together to help limit any movement and broken connections. If the plugs allow, a bit of heat shrink at each end might help too!

I my experience it's usually the plugs that fail, so I always get leads with Neutrik or very good quality looky likies on the ends, and where necessary replace with the same. Leads do pack up from time to time though., I've thrown away a few this year, generally because I've trodden on them one too many times and broken the cable inside.
