I have never tried an Apogee. I hear very good things about the brand though.

The Apogee Jam and the iRig HD look very similar to me. They both have the gain control, multi-coloured lights (for clipping notifications) and are battery free. I'd choose the iRig HD because of the additional software you get with it.

I'm not on commission :)
